The Medienboard takes stock: last year the sponsorship supported film projects, High End Drama Series, rental and festival performances in Berlin-Brandenburg with 26,5 M euro from a 31,8 M total capacity. 104 projects, including 42 feature films and 5 TV series, were produced and facilitated with 22,7 M euro. Those Medienboard funds caused more than 5 ½ times investment in the region: for 1 funding-euro 5,66 euro was spend. Moreover, ca. 5000 days of shooting were registered in 2016. The Medienboard facilitated productions developed in 2024 days.
A few highlights:
Wim Wender´s thriller “Submergence” with Oscar-awardee Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy was produced at Museumsinsel and the Studio Babelsberg. Duncan Jones turned Berlin and the Studio Babelsberg into a gloomy science fiction setting for his “Mute”. The most expensive German production was the child book’s adaption “Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer” by Dennis Gansel in late autumn. Currently, the hype about TV series contributed to another days-of-shooting-record, including the production of Tom Tykwer´s twenties-epos “Babylon Berlin”, Matthias Schweighöfer´s thriller series “You are Wandted” for Amazon and the EPIX-series “Berlin”.
